American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine College Information Booklet Update

The American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine is pleased to announce the annual update to their College Information Booklet. The College Information Booklet is the premier source of information about podiatry and the nine schools and colleges of podiatric medicine. A digital version of the updated book can be found at: http://www.aacpm.org/html/careerzon/pdfs/CIB_2013_Update.pdf.  

Updates to the digital version include incoming class data, changes in admissions policy or letters of recommendation across all nine schools and colleges of podiatric medicine, and new graphics to help applicants understand the necessary prerequisites for admission to podiatry school.

AMSA's SCHOLARS PROGRAMS

The AMSA Scholars Programs are live, online courses led by field experts to explore topics such as Health Equity, Cultural Sensitivity, Global Health, Sexual Health, Integrative Medicine, Patient Safety, Public Health, and Medical Humanities. Scholars learn from and work with mentors during a six-month live, online course that addresses topics that are typically insufficiently incorporated in formal medical school curricula. Becoming an AMSA Scholar is a unique opportunity for future physicians to collaborate, learn, and grow. Applications will be accepted until September 15th. (amsa.org/Academy)

Scholars will work collaboratively, guided by the program coordinators and expert facilitators to focus on the specific issues addressed in each course, and will propose, design, and implement a project which connects their personal enrichment as a scholar to positive impact on a local community.

Scholars will also have the opportunity to present their projects at the AMSA Convention "Tell Your Story" Poster and Project Exhibition, which will be on Friday, March 7, 2014, in New Orleans. (amsa.org/Conv)

AMSA's EMPOWERING FUTURE PHYSICIANS CONFERENCES

The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) invites pre-health students to register for the Empowering Future Physicians Conferences (amsa.org/Conferences).  Held in October, the fall conferences are being hosted this year by Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine (October 11 - 13) just outside of Philadelphia, PA and Morehouse School of Medicine (October 18 - 20) in Atlanta, GA. 

The  conference at RowanSOM will feature the theme of "Innovations in Health Care" - with a focus on innovations in health care technology, communications, community-building, and education; two pre-conference symposia will take place on Friday, the 11th: "Innovations and Medical Professionalism" and "Health Care For All Advocacy."

The conference at Morehouse School of Medicine will feature the theme of "Breaking Down Barriers" - with a focus on race, gender, sexuality, and economics impacting wellness, access, and outcomes; two pre-conference symposia will take place on Friday, the 18th:  "Gender and Sexual Health Advocacy" and "Structural Competency:  The Social Determinants of Health." Dr. David Satcher, former US Surgeon General, will give the conference keynote address.

Both conferences will feature clinical skills workshops (suture clinics, airway management, heart sounds, etc.) and professional skills workshops (communication and interviewing, giving/getting peer feedback, conflict management, etc.)

ASDA National Leadership Conference, November 15-17

The American Student Dental Association's (ASDA) annual National Leadership Conference registration is now open. The event will be November, 15-17, in Chicago, IL. This is a great way to utilize your ASDA membership to learn more about leadership through various workshops and breakout sessions. 

Some of the highlights include:

• Experience training in people mamagement, public speaking and presenting, personal finance, practice negotiations, mentoring others and more
• Build leadership skills that will be beneficial throughout your career

AACPMAS Application Launched August 2nd

The 2014 AACPMAS Application launched on August 2nd. Student interested in podiatric medicine can now begin their application at https://portal.aacpmas.org/

Beginning with the 2014 cycle, applicants will be able to use a mobile app to keep updated on the status of their application. Applicants are able to activate the app on their smart phone by scanning the QR code within their application.
