MD-PhD Panel at the NIH and MD-PhD Panel at the New York Academy of Sciences

On Friday, July 20^th there will be a MD-PhD Panel at the NIH which will be streamed live and can be viewed at:

 For those of you in NYC this summer, there will be a wonderful MD-PhD Panel at the New York Academy of Sciences featuring the directors/administrators of the MD-PhD Programs at Einstein, Columbia, NYU and Weill Cornell Medical College.  The event will take place this Thursday, June 28^th  at 6 PM.  While the event is free, students/advisors must register in advance.  There will be no registration accepted at the door (sorry).  There is a cap of 200 students for this presentation, and we’ve almost reached that number.  If you are really interested in hearing more about MD-PhD and want to come, please  register ASAP.  To register, please click here.

2012 ADEA Dental School Virtual Fair

Please join the American Dental Education Association and dental schools from across the country at the 2012 ADEA Dental School Virtual Fair. This recruitment event will take place online on June 26^th and 27^th 2012 and is free to all attendees.  Attendees to the fair will be able to experience

·         Live chat sessions with admissions officers from over 30 dental schools,

·         Brochures and videos about dentistry and the admissions process,

·         Presentations from dental educators,

·         Material from multiple dental education organizations,

·         Networking opportunities with other pre-dental students,

·         Information archiving for future use, and

What’s New for ADEA AADSAS 2013?

ADEA is pleased to announce that the 2013 ADEA AADSAS application launched today, June 4, 2012.  So far, more than 1,480 individuals have initiated an application at www.adea.org.

What’s New for ADEA AADSAS 2013? 

·         Georgia Health Sciences University College of Dental Medicine has joined ADEA AADSAS. 

·         Three new dental schools joined ADEA AADSAS and are accepting their inaugural classes in 2013:

o   University of New England College of Dental Medicine (Portland, ME)

o   Missouri School of Dentistry & Oral Health (Kirksville, MO)

o   University of Utah School of Dentistry (Salt Lake City, UT)

·         Watch for upcoming information about a new smart phone app that will be made available soon for applicants to monitor their ADEA AADSAS applications.

·         The ADEA AADSAS application fee for 2013 is $238 for the first designation and $80 for each additional designation.  A Fee Assistance Program is available to students with financial need.

Osteopathic Medical College Graduate Numbers Continue to Climb, as Two Colleges Hold Inaugural Commencement Ceremonies

The nation’s colleges of osteopathic medicine (COMs) are graduating roughly 4,500 students this spring, 9 percent more than last year’s 4,159 graduating osteopathic medical students, and 56 percent more than the 2,536 students who graduated from osteopathic medical schools a decade ago. The number of graduates is projected to continue to increase, with an estimated 5,300 students graduating each year by 2015. This marked expansion of new osteopathic physicians (DOs) could help mitigate future physician shortages.

 This year, two osteopathic medical colleges graduated their first classes:

• Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine (Yakima, WA) graduated its first class, comprised of 69 students, on May 12.

• Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine’s (Parker, CO) inaugural commencement ceremony on May 19 graduated a class of 127.

While growing class sizes have contributed to the recurrently rising number of osteopathic medical school graduates over the past decade, new colleges and campuses opening across the nation have played a vital role as well. Three new COMs – Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (Dothan, AL), Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine (Buies Creek, NC), and Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine (Indianapolis, IN) – will open their doors to students in 2013, further expanding opportunities for aspiring physicians.
